The best time to book in for your session is between 35-37 weeks gestation. By this time your belly is generally about as big as it is going to get. This is the perfect time to record that amazing curve of your belly bump!
You can either style the entire shoot yourself or utilise the items that I supply in the studio. Typically, tight fitting tops that show off your belly, jeans (even if they don’t do up!), soft flowing skirts, black yoga type bottoms, belly bands or boob tubes are good choices for your shoot.
Don’t forget to accessorise! Your hands and chest will form a main part of the focus for these images so it’s a nice excuse for a manicure! If you are feeling blah and feel that nothing in your wardrobe is shoot worthy, then leave it all up to me and I will take care of everything for you – I have a specially selected range of maternity gowns and other items of clothing, wraps and accessories for you to use, all you need to bring is a pair of light and dark coloured underwear.

Newborns aren’t curly and sleepy for very long! By the two week mark they are starting to become more alert to the world and more difficult to settle and pose for the images you want. For the best chance of capturing a mixture of sleepy shots and wide awake shots, it’s best that you book your session for between 8-12 days old. (I will gladly do them earlier if you are confident in getting out and about earlier!)
To secure your spot, please book during your third trimester of the pregnancy for a tentative booking and confirm your session as soon as possible following your birth. For older babies I simply book a longer session time and may not get the curly sleepy shots but will certainly get loads of beautiful images.
Newborns are best photographed bare, and yes, I am fully prepared for little accidents that do occur when they go without a nappy. If your preference is for bub to have a nappy on then I have a selection of knitted nappy covers to use also. Depending on the feel you want for your family images, parents are best off in either whites/creams or plain black outfits where possible.
I also have a variety of hats, wraps, headbands, blankets and cocoons available for your baby during the session. For more information on what to expect and how to prepare for your session, please email me for the comprehensive PDF.

Beyond the Newborn Phase
The first year of a child’s life is the year they really change and grow the fastest. I take great delight in meeting up with the tiny newborns again once they are sitting up and giggling, enjoying discovering their world. These sessions usually take place between 6 and 8 months of age once bub can sit well on their own and before they start to crawl. It truly is a magical age to capture as their personality just shines through.
When styling the shoot it really is up to you and what you like your baby in. The only items I do suggest bringing along is a pair of denim bottoms (skirts, shorts or pants) and a plain white t-shirt or singlet. This will be a timeless and classic image that wont date in years to come. Other than that, I just ask that you avoid large images or character logos on clothing.
First birthdays are a great cause for celebration! If you want something a little different to standard studio shots I also offer cake smash sessions which include a mounted and framed story board collage to showcase the joy (and chaos!) of letting a 12 month old loose with their very first birthday cake!
